How are diamonds treated and how does the treatment affect the value
of the diamond?
The
most common known treatments are the following: Laser Drilled Diamonds-
laser drilling improves the visual appearance of diamonds that appear
unattractive due to natural dark inclusions. The laser creates a
path to the inclusion. A liquid is then injected to dissolve and
decompose the foreign matter. Filled Diamonds are diamonds with
inclusions that extend all the way to the surface of the diamond.
They are then filled with a highly refractive liquid with great
pressure and when dry will mirror the refractive properties of a
diamond. The once obvious inclusions have become subtle. GE treated
Pegasus diamonds a secret process developed by General Electric
that improves the color of the diamond. These treated diamonds bear
the laser inscription GE-POL. It is said that only 1% of the diamonds
can be successfully treated by this method. Since this is process
is very new, it is highly unlikely an older existing diamond has
undergone this treatment. Once a diamond has been treated, it may
visually appear more attractive, but this does not increase the
value of the diamond. At the moment, we do not sell treated diamonds.
If and when we do, our clients can be sure it will be fully disclosed
before time of purchase. Go Back
